History On-line

Each year the society publishes a newsletter containing historical research carried out by our members together with other stories and recollections. A selection of these are published here in an abridged form. The full articles are available by purchasing the full newsletter from the society (free to members).

Research

A number of our members are currently engaged on research projects spanning many aspects of the history of Warsash and Hook. Current topics include:

If you would like to research some aspect of local history then please contact the society, and we can help you with sources of information including archive material, photographs, and local contacts. Alternatively, if you already have research that you would like to share then please contact us to discuss including it on this site, including it in our annual newsletter, or indeed presenting it at one of the Society's meetings.

History Archive

The society maintains an archive of historical material, a range of photographs and documents from a variety of sources. Some of these are available here, others can be obtained directly from the society.

The "Book of Names" Project

Ledgers belonging to Newbury the Undertake of Warsash are being transcribed into electronic media for use by local historians and family history researchers. They contain a wealth of information on around 3000 people.

Other books such as membership lists and minutes of local clubs and societies also contain useful historical information. If you have any such books then please contact one of our archivists.
